>>> Unix
- Creating new Email/User
|
| A user is a mail account on the server to which
e-mail can be sent and from which e-mail can be
retrieved. The instructions below cover creating
an user on Unix server. |
| |
 |
Step 1.
Go to the site administration page for your
site by entering the following URL into your
browser: http://www.yourdomain.com/siteadmin/ |
|
| |
|
|
| |
 |
Step 2.
On the authentication window that appears,
enter the username and password that you entered
when you signed up for your hosting package.
You should then see a list of users for your
site. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
 |
Step 3.
Click the Add User button. An add new user
screen should appear. You can see the help
for any of the items in the add new user screen
by moving your mouse cursor over the question
mark in the purple circle beside each item.
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
 |
Step 4.
Enter the full name you want to be used with
the email address (for example: John Smith). |
|
| |
|
|
| |
 |
Step 5.
Enter the username you want to use. The username
will become your email address. If you entered
bob for your username, your email address
would become bob@yourdomain.com. If, when
you click the Confirm New User button, you
get a message saying that the username has
already been taken, pick a different username
and add the one you wanted to use as an email
address to the Email Aliases section. |
|
| |
 |
Step 6.
Enter the password you want to use with your
email account. |
|
| |
 |
Step 7.
For Max Allowed Disk Space, enter the number
of Megabytes of disk space that you would
like that user to have. This amount must be
less than or equal to the amount of space
you have for your site. |
|
| |
 |
Step 8.
Make sure that Site Administrator and Enable
FrontPage User Web are both unchecked. |
|
| |
 |
Step 9.
Enter any email aliases you would like to
have. An email alias will let you add other
email addresses that will receive email to
that user account. For example, if you have
the username bob and add the email aliases
sam and jim, then emails sent to bob@yourdomain.com,
sam@yourdomain.com, and jim@yourdomain.com
would all be sent to the bob email account. |
|
| |
 |
Step 10.
Click the Confirm New User button. If you
get an error message saying "User
already exists" (where is the user
you are trying to add), then please re-read
step 6 for what to do. If you get an error
message saying "Disk quota cannot be greater
than the site disk quota (25 MB)", then please
re-read step 8 for information on the correct
value to use for the Max Allowed Disk Space
Field. |
|
| |
 |
Step 11.
Enter any email aliases you would like to
have. An email alias will let you add other
email addresses that will receive email to
that user account. For example, if you have
the username bob and add the email aliases
sam and jim, then emails sent to bob@yourdomain.com,
sam@yourdomain.com, and jim@yourdomain.com
would all be sent to the bob email account. |
|
| |
 |
Step 12.
Set up the email account in your email software.
See our UNIX - Email Client Setup for the
directions on how to do this. |
